Installation Instructions for AS-0010CG Complete Universal Leaf Spring Rear End Mounting Kit (Standard Duty Springs,Gas Shocks):

Before you start:

Please read the instructions completely before starting the installation.

Because this is a universal rear end mounting kit, not specifically created for a specific car make and model, it is not possible for us to provide exact measurements for mounting locations and as of such, any needed modification to the parts or the car itself is completely at the discretion of the installer.

Step 1. Remove the original rear-end, springs and the shocks. Remove the original spring mounts as well.

Step 2. Fit all the new parts before doing any welding. Start with the front sping hanger, then measure (center of the mount hole to center of of the other mount hole) 47 1/2 inch towards the back for the rear spring hanger. Mockup where the wheels and tires would be after installation, and visually check for centering with the fender. If any adjustments to the spring mounts are needed, do this now. Do NOT neglect this check.

Step 3. Install the shock absorbers to the lower shock mounts in order to visualize upper shock mount configuration. This will vary between applications and it must be located by the installer. Shocks can be mounted on either side of the axle, as needed for clearance.

Rear Shock Kit Install:

Step 4. Position the shock bar so that the shocks will line up between bottom mount and the bar. Shorten the shock bar to about 1 inch longer than that of distance between the frame rails.

Step 5. Install outer shock bar mount plates and spot-weld to frame. Note: This is a universal kit, so make modifications if needed.

Step 6. Slide bar into outer mount plates and mark desired upper shock mounting points on the shock bar. Drill 5/8 inch holes at these points and insert tubes. Weld tubes in place.

Step 7. Spot weld the shock bar to the outer mount plates and recheck the fit now. Important: make sure the shocks do not bottom out before the rear end does. If they do, something will break sooner or later.

Step 8. After checking everything for full-range travel and clearances, finish the weld and install the shocks.

Step 9. Now go back and check for loose bolts, make sure pieces are fitting tight, no parts rubbing on other parts, and give everything a general overview for correct operation.

Make sure that the car bottoms out on a rebound rubber and not on the shocks. If the car bottoms out on the shocks, sooner or later something will break.

Note: If you make modifications to the leaf spring suspension, such as adding a lowering block, keep an eye on the scrub line. This line is the lowest point of the rims. Nothing should go below this imaginary line.

About Leaf Springs:

Leaf Spring Suspension Systems have been around for ages and have been used in many different brands and models. Even to this day, you can find plenty of cars equipped with them because they are affordable and work really well.

Some of the duties leaf spring suspensions perform:

Absorb the imperfections (bumps/holes etc) of the road while driving.
Controls the roll of the car when cornering.
Absorb acceleration and brake forces.

After installing, new leaf springs will normally drop up to an inch in the first 500 miles of use.

Depending on the weight of the car, new leaf springs can have a slight arch, sit flat or are slightly reversed. This is normal. The spring is acting just like it should. Also, parallel leaf springs are never perfectly parallel. This is also normal. It is just a name for this type of suspension. The springs will operate the same.
